RetroPel

Preparation

• Protect people, vehicles, property, plants, and all surfaces not meant for treatment from product, residue, splash, fumes, and wind drift. Use polyethylene or other proven protective materials.
• Ensure fresh air entry and cross ventilation during application and drying.
• Remove any dirt, oil, grease, paint, waxes, efflorescence, and surface sealers before application.
• For best results, clean the floor with CreteClean Plus with Scar Guard™ using an auto scrubber with blue or black pads, or a mop and bucket.
• RetroPel can be applied 28 days after placement of the concrete.
• Surface & Air Temperature: Between 40–80°F (4–26°C).
• Equipment: Pump-up sprayer with adjustable conical tip (approximately 0.5 gpm), microfiber pad, propane burnisher and soft natural hair burnishing pad (optional), and appropriate safety equipment.
• Coverage: Averages approximately 600–1,200 ft²/gal (15–30 m²/L). Most floors densified and polished to 800-grit or higher yield 900–1,000 ft²/gal (22–25 m²/L). Coverage depends on concrete porosity, level of polish, and application method.

Standard Application Procedure

1. Stir well before and during use. Do not shake (shaking causes excessive bubbles and foam).
2. Mask off and protect baseboards or adjacent areas to avoid splashing or overspray on unintended surfaces.
3. Liberally apply an even coat of sealer with a pump-up sprayer. Allow product to soak in and work it in with a microfiber pad until the floor is fully saturated.
4. If the first application is immediately absorbed, apply a second application wet-on-wet before the first dries.
5. All product should penetrate the concrete—do not allow it to dry on the surface. If excess product dries, buffing can remove haze.
6. Do not walk on the surface until completely dry. Avoid standing water for at least 24 hours. Full cure is achieved in 24 hours.
7. After application, rinse and flush all equipment with clean water.

Maintenance

• Do not use acidic detergents or detergents containing sulfates or hydroxides.
• Use CreteClean Plus with Scar Guard in scrubbers or mop buckets for best results.
• Keep the floor clean by removing dirt and debris regularly. Clean up spills promptly.

How is RetroPel different from a topical sealer?

Unlike topical sealers that sit on the surface, RetroPel penetrates into the floor’s microscopic gaps, forming a durable internal barrier without adding gloss or changing the look of the floor.

When should RetroPel be applied?

RetroPel can be applied 28 days after the concrete has been placed and once it has been densified and polished. It’s especially effective during the first 12 months when densification is still ongoing.

What surfaces is RetroPel compatible with?

It’s suitable for all concrete and terrazzo floors, including those treated with Ashford Formula and RetroPlate, whether new or old, standard or colored.

Does RetroPel affect the appearance of the floor?

No. RetroPel does not alter the floor’s appearance, sheen, or color. It leaves the surface looking the same but with enhanced protection.

Do I need to burnish RetroPel to cure it?

No. RetroPel does not require burnishing to cure. The product cures fully within 24 hours without any additional steps.

How do I maintain a floor treated with RetroPel?

Use CreteClean Plus with Scar Guard for regular maintenance. Avoid acidic cleaners or those containing sulfates or hydroxides, and clean up spills quickly to preserve repellency.
